So! I have plenty of my friends asking “What’s that Alien about in your web-comic?”. Maybe you’re asking the same question? I say the same to you I say to them: You’ll just have to wait and see!
As you can see all the characters together look pretty good together. I admit that Fidget’s head is a little big and neck a bit odd, but that could be part of her character. We’ll see as things progress.
I also admit that the line work could be tightened up a bit, but that’s down to practice, which was the whole point of me setting up this comic.
We now have the Fidget, Didget and Midget logo on-line! Yay!
I’m really happy with it, and think it will serve the main comic well when its finally live. The best thing about it, is that I have created it in as a vector image (Google that if you don’t know what that is) so I can change the colour to match wherever it is posted.
I think from now on I shall refer to the comic as F-D-M-idget. 🙂
The original plan was to get the first 3 comics on-line (actual comics, not concepts) then post the sites to all my social media connections, make a Facebook page, Twitter Feed and Google+ page etc…… Then start working on a shop that has some merchandise for the comic (to help feed my starving children).
However, I’m really not at all happy with the look and feel of either site right now. I just would not like to advertise it when it all looks so…… not right……?
I got rid of the Orange look, but the main site looks like a cluster of text that’s all over the place, and this blog looks totally different from the main site. I don’t really think I like the colour scheme of either site at all.
Also the links between main site and this blog is just to disjointed. For example there are now two RSS feeds. There should be one for both sites to post to. To navigate from one to the other is done via clumsy links that are hidden all over the place.
One of the things both sites are in need of is a logo for DustyGhost.com. For some reason I have totally over-looked this.
Simply put, a good comic can be ruined by a poor looking and poorly functional site. I am very concious that works visa-versa too. There is an old saying that goes something like “Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before getting started.” So I understand the risk of constantly tweaking the site before working on the comic, but that’s not the plan here. I just strongly feel the house of F-D-M-idget must be a comfortable place for them to stay. 🙂
So, before I promote this further, I’ve decided to spend some time over the next week cleaning up both sites, unifying them and making them more “DustyGhost.com”.
It’s possible that this blog will be merged with the main site. That way all RSS feeds, email subscriptions and social network updates happen in one place. That I have to work out though.
Then, when the first three live strips go up, the site will be ready for promotion to the world at large!
This does mean that with my limited schedule I may run the risk of missing an upload to the comic this week, but there is not a lot else I can do if I want to get this right.
So there it is. It’s all positive as I have tons of motivation to get this done, and I just know this is all going to be worth the extra effort!
