It’s been quite exciting to put a new site together that is all my own creation, pure fun in fact!
When something like this is your own, where you have total control and can do whatever you want, it’s a kind of creative freedom and satisfaction that I’ve never really known before.
I’ve had a blast messing around with WordPress, playing with features, getting it all functional, integrating web comic managing code. All great fun!
I’ve been like a child spending all day with paint, making a wonderful creation from my mind. And like that child, to me, it’s the best thing in the world, EVER!
I’ve just had one of those moments the hypothetical child does: That moment when I hold the picture up for the grownups to see, they look at it and say in the lovingly condescending way that grownups do: “That’s nice dear, what is it?”
A child at that point has two ways to react, disappointed that no one “gets it”, or relish the chance to explain what little blobs and crazy mixed colours actually mean.
I’m sort of in the later mode right now. Loving the chance to show off what we have done and try to get the point of it all across.
It has highlighted a rather poignant problem though: What is DustyGhost.com?
When people come to our site, what does it say about what DustyGhost.com is and what do we offer.
Right now on the front page we have a couple of web comics, which are going well now they have both started, so that’s good!
And there is a news feed where I ramble to you like I am right now.
And that’s about it.
But there are other things here already you know.
Did you know that Craig and I are for hire for example? We are both freelancers.
We both have portfolios that badly need updating.
There are some tutorials from me too. And these attract the odd visitor. But there could be a lot more!
The shop is being worked out right now and I have suppliers on hand ready to produce what we need! But could I honestly expect people to buy from a shop that could be hidden away on a menu?
Also the site is not at all mobile friendly, on a smart phone everything is so small and zooming in causes problems with the layout.
Going back to our hypothetical child, I feel like I have explained what the creation is, got some advice on how to improve and now it’s time to create again! I grab another sheet of paper, start again, but this time, make it BETTER!!
The current design of DustyGhost.com is functional, but not very engaging, I have a ton of ideas on how to improve it, and am happy we went down the path we did, as I have learned tons.
But it’s now time to up my game a bit and make it….BETTER!!
So, keep an eye out, there are going to be some big changes!
